# How to share when you are free on iPhone

Share your free time from iPhone without showing your events. What Apple's Calendar does on its own, and how Alto Calendar shares only the blocks.

Sharing a calendar on iPhone shares everything in it: titles, places, notes. Most people want something smaller: when they are free.

## In Apple's Calendar alone

1. Make a new iCloud calendar in the Calendar app, like "Busy".
2. Copy your events into it by hand, each one renamed "Busy".
3. Share it: Add Person, then turn off Allow Editing.

It works, and it is a chore you repeat every time your plans change. Sharing your real calendar instead shows every title, every place and every guest.

## With Alto Calendar

Alto Calendar does step 2 for you and keeps doing it. It builds one Busy/Free calendar out of the calendars you already keep, carries only the blocks, and refreshes it in the background as your calendars change.

1. Get Alto Calendar and allow calendar access. It reads when your events are, never what they are called.
2. Pick the calendars that make you busy.
3. Share the Busy/Free calendar with Apple's own calendar sharing, or invite from Contacts.

They see when you are free. They never see what you were doing. When they share theirs back, Alto Calendar shows when everyone is actually free. [How sharing works](/sharing).
